Wedding rings will symbolize your marriage for the next fifty years, or perhaps even longer, so how do you choose the ones that fit perfectly? The selection of wedding rings is extremely wide – you can choose from various designs, materials, and prices, so every couple will find the most suitable option for them.
We are talking with Julija Gerlich, the founder of our jewelry house FashionGold.lt, who advises on how to choose the best wedding rings, what mistakes to avoid, and reveals how much they can cost! In addition, rings can be made according to your individual preferences to match your unique style and desires.
What are wedding rings
Wedding rings are not just jewelry – they symbolize the love, loyalty, and eternal bond between two people. Since ancient times, wedding rings have been the most important symbol of marriage, accompanying a couple throughout their lives. These rings are made from various materials, but the most popular are gold wedding rings and white gold wedding rings. Often, wedding rings are adorned with diamonds or other gemstones, giving them exclusivity and luxury. Wedding rings are not only beautiful pieces of jewelry but also a special symbol of love that reminds two people of their promise to be together for a lifetime.
The symbolism of wedding rings
The symbolism of wedding rings is particularly important for every couple, as the rings reflect not only love but also loyalty and the commitment to live together. Wedding rings with diamonds are often chosen for their brilliance and durability – they symbolize strong, unfading love. Classic wedding rings, with their simplicity and elegance, convey the idea of eternal love. The symbolism of wedding rings can vary depending on the design, materials, or even the personal choices of the couple, but all rings share a common meaning – they are a symbol of love and connection that accompanies the couple throughout their lives.
1. Neither too light nor too heavy
Pay attention to the weight of the rings so that your fingers don’t get tired and you don’t have to carry extra unnecessary grams every day. We recommend that the weight of one wedding ring does not exceed 6-9 grams. Of course, you shouldn’t go to extremes and choose very light rings. Nowadays, you can find very cheap wedding rings in shopping centers, but don’t be in a hurry to celebrate—pay attention to the ring’s weight. It may turn out to be a hollow ring weighing only 1-2 grams. Such a ring will bend while carrying a shopping bag from the store, not to mention other challenges. A high-quality wedding ring with a comfort zone should weigh at least 4-8 grams, depending on the height of the ring.

2. Choose the most suitable ring width
While many choose classic wedding rings that are 4-6 millimeters wide, it is important to emphasize that ring width is one of the main elements of individual design. There are always newlyweds who want to wear very wide rings of 8 or even 10 millimeters. Why is this uncomfortable? Such wedding rings scratch heavily because the point of contact spans the entire surface; they wear out faster and require constant maintenance. Not to mention that it will be harder to bend your fingers or clench your fists, and the finger itself in that area, if it doesn’t have a good enough comfort zone, can swell, sweat, or even chafe.
Additionally, the width of the rings can be combined with different color choices, thus expressing individual style and adapting the ring to personal preferences.
3. Consider innovations carefully
A few years ago, an innovation appeared: decorating wedding rings with your fingerprints. We want to remind you that a fingerprint on the inside will rub off quickly, and if it’s a deeper engraving, the uneven surface will rub against the finger itself. Furthermore, fingerprint grooves on both the inside and outside will collect dirt. Therefore, really consider how much sense there is in a fingerprint.
4. Don’t choose black diamonds
Black diamonds, which are sometimes associated with black magic, are very fragile because they are usually diamonds of poor clarity or color that cannot be sold as high-quality and are dyed black. That is why white diamonds are most commonly set in wedding rings. White diamonds look especially beautiful in white gold rings, which are characterized by elegance and purity. An alternative could be yellow gold rings, which are also popular and frequently chosen. If you really want black diamonds, you can use them as an additional strip or “set” them deeper so that the setting protects the gemstone itself.
5. Deep engravings collect dirt
Openwork patterns in wedding rings are beautiful while they are in the display case. Deep engravings and various patterns or gaps are perfect environments for collecting various types of dirt. Naturally, rings covered in dirt will not shine and will not beautify your fingers.

6. Diamond shape is also important
Pay attention to the shape of the diamonds and how they are set in the ring. Squared diamonds are problematic, which is why they are cheaper. The weak point of such diamonds is the corners, which can chip. Therefore, it is more practical to place a round diamond into a square setting if you want the effect of a square diamond. Just remember that no square diamond sparkles like a classic brilliant – round, with traditional 57 facets.
7. The best fineness – 585
What is fineness (caratage)? It is the number that shows how much gold is in the gold alloy. If a ring has the traditional 585 fineness, it means that in 1000 grams of the alloy from which the ring is made, there are 585 grams of pure gold. Yellow gold rings are most commonly made from 585 fineness gold. Why is gold melted with other metals? Because it is very soft by itself (remember movies where they test gold with their teeth!), so the higher the fineness, the easier it is to scratch, scuff, and dent the ring. Therefore, for example, 750 gold fineness makes a ring 30% heavier and a third more expensive. It’s no secret that many sellers offer it simply to increase your expenses.
8. Diamond setting

Be sure to ask how the diamonds are set. Only an improperly set stone falls out, and this can only be ensured by a very experienced jeweler who is not only an artist but also has an engineering understanding of how, at what angle, and where to fix the gemstone so that it pleases the eye forever.
9. Art in wedding rings
Jewelers are artists and, as is known, representatives of this profession often have their own vision, perspective, and taste. Therefore, do not be surprised if your ring does not meet your expectations or does not match your vision. Choose from existing models, combine them with each other, and discuss every detail of the rings very thoroughly.
Also, wedding rings can be created according to the individual wishes and design vision of the client, so you can utilize your unique style and desired elements.
10. Avoid buying rings online
It is essential to look at as many wedding rings as possible both online and in person before buying, but we strictly recommend against buying such a piece of jewelry—which is a symbol and must be worn for many years—online. It is very important to accurately determine the ring size before purchasing to avoid inconvenience later. 99% of newlyweds, after arriving at the jewelry house and trying wedding rings on their fingers, radically change their minds. If you are not a specialist, it is difficult to navigate the intricacies of sizes, widths, thicknesses, and diamond quality, so you cannot do without professional consultation.
11. Enamel is temporary
Another innovation is wedding rings decorated with colored enamel. They look interesting and non-traditional, and various patterns can be painted, but understand that enamel cracks over time and must be worn very carefully. Enamel is produced by heating quartz sand, chalk, soda, and other materials and is like a colored glass coating. Therefore, it is probably understandable that such a coating is not long-lasting or strong.
12. Diamond quality
Better to have fewer and smaller, but truly high-quality diamonds. In Lithuania, diamond quality is determined by the Lithuanian Assay Office, which issues a certificate. Pay attention to the diamond’s clarity and color. We advise putting diamonds of at least VS-SI clarity and W (H) – white color into a wedding ring.
13. Choose from a large selection
The more options, the better you will find what you want, so visit several jewelry houses or places where there is a large selection. FashionGold.lt offers newlyweds a choice of 1300 wedding ring models, so such a wide assortment allows for the satisfaction of all needs and desires, meaning everyone will definitely find their dream rings. The assortment is constantly updated with new collections coming directly from jewelry exhibitions worldwide.
14. Reliability
Wedding ring traditions are long-lasting, so it is important to choose rings from reliable jewelry houses or manufacturers that are the most popular in Europe. FashionGold.lt is the representative in Lithuania for German wedding ring manufacturers “Gerstner”, “Raushmayer”, and EGF. These brands stand out for their production technology – wedding rings are cast from hardened gold, which is resistant to micro-cracks, contains no nickel, and scratches less. The price range for German rings is also very wide and depends on the gold fineness – starting from 330 Eur, silver rings from 57 Eur, and platinum from 521 Eur.
15. Local jewelers
FashionGold.lt also presents handmade wedding rings perfected over many years of work and loved by many newlyweds, made by FashionGold.lt jewelers, with prices starting from 320 Eur. Handmade rings can be made according to the wishes of each couple, taking into account individual desires and design solutions. You can choose from 400 models!
16. Use your own gold
Many couples have family gold inherited from parents or grandparents that they want to use in their wedding rings – then you will only have to pay for the manufacturing of the wedding rings. The production of wedding rings with a comfort zone at the FashionGold.lt jewelry house will cost from 139 Eur.
17. Warranty – reliability
Many promise to provide a lifetime warranty, but when the need arises, it turns out the jeweler stopped working long ago, the shop closed, and people with problems don’t know where to turn. Therefore, when choosing where to buy wedding rings, find out about reliability and read reviews.
18. Engrave originally
Newlyweds often choose wedding rings responsibly, but when asked what to engrave, they get confused and hurriedly ask to engrave the wedding date or names. However, an original engraving can make the ring something that is special only to you. Dear ones, we guarantee that you will definitely not forget your spouse’s name, and the marriage date can be checked on the marriage certificate.
19. Be original!
Come up with an oath or a phrase that you can write across two rings – the beginning on his, and the continuation on hers. Are you truly original? Record an audio recording and print its diagram on the ring. Or leave an empty space to engrave a time-tested confession on your anniversary!
Wedding ring price
The price of wedding rings depends on many factors: the complexity of the design, the materials used, the width and size of the rings, and additional details such as gemstones. Classic wedding rings often cost less than those with exclusive designs or those encrusted with diamonds. Also, the price can vary depending on the color of the gold – yellow, white, or rose gold. When choosing wedding rings, it is important not only to consider the price but also to choose rings that best reflect your love and connection. Don’t forget that the price of wedding rings is an investment in a symbol that will accompany you throughout your life.
Inheritance of wedding rings
The inheritance of wedding rings is a special tradition where rings are passed down from generation to generation, thus preserving family history and values. Wedding rings can become a precious family heirloom that can be passed on to children or grandchildren. Also, if the rings no longer fit or you want to update them, they can be melted down or adapted to a new design. It is important to consult with jewelers before inheriting or passing on wedding rings, as they will help determine the value of the rings and advise on how best to preserve them for future generations.
Wedding rings and engagement rings
Wedding rings and engagement rings are two different but complementary symbols of love. Engagement rings mark the first step toward a life together and are given during the proposal. Wedding rings are an eternal symbol of love, loyalty, and life together, which the couple puts on during the wedding ceremony. When choosing both engagement and wedding rings, it is important to consider the design, materials, and size so that both rings harmonize with each other and reflect the couple’s love and bond.
